Congratulations guys! Excited to see where the next 200 episodes go. I'm going to go ahead and say that a KILLER TGN collaboration would be a grey bezel (and pick your dial color) Bremont S302 with TGN on the caseback. 100% would buy!
Also, as far as communities go, there is a TGN subreddit r/TheGreyNato that only has like 20 subs. But could totally be used as a community forum for those interested. You lose the personal touch as Reddit is primarily about anonymity, so there is that.
Would love a few more comments on your new Papa Wallet in the future. Been covering one for a few years and may just pull the trigger to mark the end of my first year teaching.
Have used a less than $20 waterproof case purchased off of Amazon for a couple of years on my iPhone 12 Mini. Easy to snap on when either I need extra protection (weekend of camping) or around/in water (kayaking, beach, snorkeling). Works well under water for photos and video while snorkeling (tip, use the volume button as the shutter function). Pros: cheap and easy on/off; if sealed correctly doesn't seep in any water. Cons: none.
Congrats on 200! Regarding the final comments about underwater housings for phones, I’d highly recommend the aquatech axisgo range. Fairly well priced for the great quality you get and won’t ever flood so long as you do the right thing!
Congrats gentlemen! I’ve been listening since day one as your podcast started right around the time I started to become more interested in watches.
Recommendation for TGN swag for supporters: TGN CHALLENGE COIN
These would enhance the sense of belonging to this great group, they are easy to design/produce, and have a great history within groups, clubs, and military organizations. Good luck with the next 200.
Congratulations on 200! I have been listening since episode 42 about the Halios, and I look forward to the show each week. It is in no small part to this podcast and the articles James wrote about the Seiko SPB143 that I have one on my wrist as I type this! Keep up the great work and I look forward to more interesting chats and guests. Thanks!
Congrats Jason and James! I'm looking forward to seeing where TGN goes! Hopefully I'll have my passport and dive cert in time for the TGN Booze, Watch and Dive Cruise :p
I'll add my congratulations guys! Wish I could make it to Chicago to meet and check out the merch. Decals and t-shirts will be solid sellers.
James, I have an Olympus TG-6 that works great for wet conditions, I've had mine ~30 feet deep with no problems. Small sensor, but pretty fast lens and shoots raw if you need it. New camera.. but not crazy money.
A TGN watch collab would be great. I suspect a big brand would be tough to manage, but MKII/TR or Halios would be right in the wheelhouse. If it happens, might I suggest fixed springbars. I'd love to see more watches with fixed bars, embrace the NATO!!
I found out about you from Fratello way back in June 2016 when episode 3 dropped. Then enjoying it so much I immediately listened to episodes 1 & 2 and I’ve listened to every episode ever since. You are my favorite podcast by far. Unlike other podcasts that will talk about watches, you talk to us and not down to us (Worn & Wound and Spending Time pontificates more than not). I read that guy’s comment on Hodinkee about not diving with watches and died laughing. The reason I enjoy the podcast is that you give the listener the feeling that you are joining a great conversation with two of your best friends. Please keep up the good work. Looking forward to episode 1000 and longer.
Thank you for the 200 episodes. I’ve been a listener since episode 1, and have enjoyed almost every single one. I remember I started to listen because I thought your show was about nato straps - which I was looking for at that time, for my Omega Speedmaster.
I’ll continue to listen and look forward to great episodes on the future. Sadly, the coming meetup is far from Denmark.
Congrats on 200 episodes! I’ve been listening for several years. I have to thank you because especially during the pandemic you’ve kept my spirits up! I’ve got a question for the community. I’m moving for theoretical to actual and am getting PADI open water diver certified and will be going diving a few times next month. I’ve got $2000 set aside for a dive watch. What do folks recommend? I’m thinking:
My sincere recommendation - spend that money on higher quality scuba gear instead! If you are diving a few times a month it is the best and most important investment you will make to continue the hobby. The dive watches will find their place eventually ;)
All that you’ve listed are great options. I got certified earlier this year with a Doxa 300T Searambler on wrist, and picked up a second hand 300T Professional to mark the occasion.
Awesome! Now that you have both, which colorway do you prefer? Where did you get certified? I decided on the Doxa 300T Caribbean. It arrives tomorrow and I’m very excited. I’ll be taking it to the Bahamas to get certified.
They’re both fantastic in their own way. The Pro has been getting more wrist time lately, but if I could only keep one, it’d be the Searambler. I did my certification dives at the Homestead Crater in Utah back in February. It’s a geothermal hot spring, and was an interesting place to get certified with the water at 93 degrees and air temp in the single digits.
Congrats on your 300T purchase. Caribbean is another great color, and DOXA does color so well. Best of luck on your certification!
Wow. Homestead Crater sounds wonderful. I’ll have to add it to my bucket list. I struggled to choose between the Searambler and the Caribbean honestly. I love the sunburst on the Searambler. But the blue of the Caribbean kept pulling me. And since I’m getting certified in the Caribbean ocean I figured that would be the deciding factor.
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I almost went the Scurfa route. Since I’ve only got room for one diver in my modest collection, I decided to go with the Doxa with the Caribbean colorway. Should arrive tomorrow and I’m very excited to get it on wrist!
That's a great choice! I have looked at that colorway too, its such a classic. BUT now you have to get the orange beenie for the full Jacques-Yves Cousteau look. Enjoy :-)
Great suggestions! Thanks. I see that North Sea makes some nice ones, as does fjallraven. Just looked at Triple Aught Designs and they make a nice one too called the Warden Watch Cap.
200 episodes is incredible. Time has flown by. I think my favorite episodes are the Nims interview, the book and movie clubs, and the yearly wrap up shows. Thanks for all the great content.
I can’t make it to Chicago next weekend. Would someone be willing to be a buying proxy so I can get the hard to get TGN merch? DM me here (I think that’s possible) or on IG and we can work out the details.
Wow 4 to 1 editing time. I had no idea you put that much time in. Always sounds excellent and now I understand why. So glad to contribute.

+1 to the coin that would be cool

Thanks. Great idea!! Looking on Amazon now! Lol. Of course I’ll have to put it on my Grey Nato at some point too.
Jason would probably say look at North Sea Clothing, i think he's a fan . I have a red one from fjallraven that i use alot when i am camping
Great suggestions! Thanks. I see that North Sea makes some nice ones, as does fjallraven. Just looked at Triple Aught Designs and they make a nice one too called the Warden Watch Cap.
I actually bought my son the Scurfa Diver One Ti in orange, and for less than $300 bucks its awesome summer watch. I wear it if he leaves it behind.
