Love the discussion on Serica. My 5303-1 diver is easily my most worn watch, usually on a bonklip. It’s amazing, love its warmth and character. And my most accurate watch to boot. Usually around 0.0 to +0.5 spd, and never clocks outside +\- 2 spd.
For an even deeper dive into the Music of Bond there is a series of podcasts that go into extensive detail on the individual scores for each film including super interesting background with archived interviews and interspersed music. I am linking the episode for Thunderball below.
Hi James. Regarding your recent Anker charger purchase. Take a look at the Anker 737 If you haven’t already.
It offers the same number of plugs, 20 more watts of power and is in a smaller form factor to boot. Anker recently came out with this family of chargers called GanPrime and they all offer more power in a smaller form factor!
Lorier has announced that they will be moving the Hyperion GMT to the Miyota movement next year some time. Diameter should stay the same but it will be 1.5mm thicker. There is also a jack mason with it available for preorder
I’ll admit it: I like the Bremont Supernova with the white dial. Bremont has been a real “meh” brand for me since I was really put off by their original “in-house movement” debacle and general over-marketing focus. But James and Jason have done a great job providing clarifying information on the brand, especially the interview(s?), so now I’ll give them a closer look. However, at $9k this watch is in very competitive territory.
Since the Bremont website doesn’t mention it, nor do our hosts, I assume the integrated bracelet is not micro-adjustable. C’mon Bremont and other brands, looking at you Grand Seiko, it’s almost 2023 and even my 500 euro kickstarter dive watch has a micro-adjustable bracelet. The standard company retort to this criticism is “our bracelets have half links,” but that’s not even close to good enough in the modern era.
As the owner of an Omega Globemaster, which is not a GMT watch but does have a jumping hour movement, I really appreciate being able to bump the hour forward and back without having to reset everything. As someone with wrists on the smaller side, I really really really want to see a clean GMT in the 39 or 40 mm range with the new Miyota movement.
That terminology (“true GMT”) is outdated. Flyer or caller is a better descriptor, with flyer having the ease of a jumping hour hand, though typically flyer GMTs are more expensive. It’s true that the OG GMT Master was not a flyer GMT (pun intended).
I haven’t heard you guys mention the new Seiko Prospex dark/black divers.
I bought the SPB255 and I love it. I get that it’s basically just a color change and another vintage reissue but the combo really works. Wears beautifully and comes on a killer woven NATO. Love to hear the forums impressions.
Today So Labs rolled out an automatic line of watches. Same funky designs you guys discussed on the pod but steel case + bracelet, Sellita movement, 100m WR, and a higher price point. $1k is a lot to spend on something that specific, but I can't say I'm not tempted. Love some of these color combos. https://so-labs.co/collections/layer-two
@James any chance of a hands-on? Could reignite your passion for pastel.
I agree with the rant. That said, as a photographer, where people have managed to name the various sensor sizes for interchangeable lens cameras: micro 4/3, APS-C, Full Frame, Medium Format, I'm less than confident that we'll get the naming convention for GMTs right. The people who make flyer GMTs are going to want to call them "true" GMTs even if it's not necessarily better or more "true," in the same way camera manufacturers love the term full frame even if its not necessarily better or more "full" than the other options.
The want for the Serica is strong, especially with being able to spec a left side crown. Too bad I'm 3 or 4 watches past my self-imposed 2022 watch buying limit.
It was perfect. Combined with a single euro adapter and a short extension cable, it was a great setup feeding a USBC for my laptop, a C to Lightning for my phone, and then a spare port for anything from airpods to my Q battery charger. Great setup that is coming to LA with me as I type this reply. - JS

Never heard people say the “True GMT” however my EXP 2 is the only GMT I ever used. Good to learn something
Interesting, would be nice if they keep both options available. The thinness of the current version looks quite nice if you only need a caller.

Hear, hear about "true" GMTs. The OG GMT Master didn't have a jumping hour. Would anybody claim it wasn't "true"? 😕

In honor of James’s homage to the cuttlefish, the best cuttlefish video ever.

Completely forgot about this video series-thank you!

Hoping to get the new model in sometime soon, they just needed what stock they had for Wind Up NYC. It's on the (always growing) list!
Thank you for the GMT rant James! It has bugged me as well when I see “a true GMT”! 👍🏼 No one GMT is more true of a GMT than the other.

The Sound of 007 was great fun! The music is beyond iconic and that guitar intro to the 007 theme always puts a smile on my face.
I have not finished the episode yet - but I hope we get the other two of James' top three favorite animals. The suspense is killing me!

Serica won't be delivered until January. Seems like you are in the clear!
That’s what I was thinking. My 5303 is easily my most worn watch.
Good episode, you two.
James, I would be keen to hear a quick report on how the Anker 736 does on your trip.

Champion. I'll likely be getting one. Thanks for the follow-up report!
